Adwords Doesn't Like Squeeze Pages Anymore?

There was a post on the Adwords blog warning of a new Google Slap, this time targeting, among other things, "Data collection sites that offer free gifts, subscription services etc., in order to collect private information." Does this not sound like a squeeze page?!

    Any thoughts?

Ya I blogged about it back when it 1st came out.
But more so about the affiliate marketing implications.
A little scary that they have so much power to make or break businesses.

If you throw up a page with nothing more than a headline and an opt in form what do you really expect Google to say?

It's all about giving searchers QUALITY information. QUALITY information that is RELEVANT to the keywords they typed in.

Searchers don't want to part with email addresses to get information...

There ARE ways around it but I would agree with the statement that "Squeeze Pages are Dead" with adwords...

Deal with it, move on and go with the Google Flow :)

    Cheers

I always give searchers a way to avoid the opt in, with a huge link right below the form that says something like "No, that's okay -- just let me check out your site."

Are squeeze pages okay with Google if you've got something like that?

    hi Johnny

From my experience and from what I've read on the Adwords site (and from the reps) they want quality sites as the first point of contact.

It's not really about the fact you are asking for an email address... its the fact that you are not giving them what they are looking for.

You could have your opt in box on the page. For example: Keyword = "Dog Training Tips

Landing Page: 5 Dog Training Tips

Give them the tips like they want then offer them more tis by email...

    Get the drift?

    Cheers

I think with each passing day google is making life tougher and tougher for affiliates to compete we need to look for alternatives

What if you put the opt-in box above the fold and place more information further down the page? Or what if there are links to useful information? Also, to what extent is landing page quality review automated?

Has anyone using squeeze pages noticed higher minimums in the past few days? I panicked and replaced all my destination URLs sending people to squeeze pages with instead sending them directly to my sales letter.

What you can do is keep the opt-in in most visible and optimal place and just ad content around it, articles, blog, etc...

Also if it is just a squeeze page, you need to have a 'deeper' site than just 1 page, again content. What else can you provide for the user than just signing up is what big G wants to know.
