I'm trying to figure out if Adwords can be profitable to promote a BANS site. So far I think I'm showing a good profit, but I'd like to be able to track exactly which clicks are coming from Adwords, and whether they result in a sale. Is this possible? Do I need to use the Google cross tracking tool?
Hi Bearded, nice to see you are making some profit. i have few questions What is the average price of your products? what is the average cost of adword cliks? how many cj cliks converting to successful sale? thanks
I have several niche sites. One averages around $300, and two others average around $800. Between 10-20 cents depending on how specific the keyword is. This month so far, for example, one of my sites has had 776 clicks, and 14 sales, with a commission total of $130. But people click on multiple items. I've only had about 350-400 uniques on that site, and paid for about 250 adwords clicks. So I'm wondering who is doing the actual shopping, the adwords, ultra-targetted searchers, or the other targeted traffic I've been sending (mostly through stumble, and niche forum links).
I have a question, what's a bans site? Hopefully my answer is still relevant to you. Since you can't put the adwords conversion code at the end of the sale you need to settle for 2nd best. Install Google Analytics and add some custom tags to your outgoing affiliate links. Setup goals in your GA account for these custom tags. Then in your traffic sources report you will be able to see what percentage of each traffic channel turns into a lead. It's not perfect but it will clearly indicate which is the best lead generating traffic source.
I can answer it from a CJ side, you want to use the SID parameter on your links. I use it to track several different things, including adsense keywords (which, in the end, weren't leading to significant sales for me) You can fill this with any alpha numeric, and it will show as a special field on the transaction detail in CJ. I have never used BANS (i prefer to do things myself, by hand), so I don't know if it is possible to include that in the link or not. -Jason
I'm actually doing the same thing on my CheapXboxGames.org site. Ironically, I just started so I can't give you any advice If you want, we can share ideas/tips. We don't have to get specific so we don't steal each others niche, but i think it would help us both.
BANS 2.0 automatically inserts a SID when a link gets clicked. Is there some way I can pass a variable from Adwords links to my BANS site that will track it all the way to conversion? I really just want to know if it's my directed traffic or my PPC traffic that's converting.
In order for the ROI tracker to work, the code must be placed on a "thank you" page, like a page after a sale, so the user is tracked from start to finish. Unfortunately, a BANS site directs users to Ebay and they don't return to your BANS site after they register or bid. GA (Google Analytics) tracks what traffic is paid or natural. Make sure you put the GA code in your footer.
Actually, CJ's SID tracks it through eBay, I just can't figure out how to track a single user all the way from adwords, to bans, to ebay. I've already got GA tracking where the traffic is coming from, there's just that middle link I need.
Hi Bearded Did you have any luck in the end? I would like a solution also. edit >>> This will do the job apparently. I am going to try it now http://mogul.webmogulenterprises.com/how-to-track-clicks-in-a-bans-site
try making a new bans site, exact clone of what you have, throwing up noindex and not putting any links only ppc traffic, same exact ppc campaign. Run it for a couple days and see if it converts.
