Can you create a spreadsheet of your ads and then import them? I am trying to work out the fastest way to get ads into adwords. Currenly using the Adwords Editor but want to create my own tool for speed. Don't know how to use the API so it would involve creating something that spews the info out onto a spreadsheet, text file or similar. Thanks, Jon
Sure you can create spreadsheets in exel with your ads in them... just save a single ad/campaign/keyword to a csv file and learn from the layout...
But is using Adwords Editor any faster to actually ad an adgroup? The way they have implemented it means you have to flip between tabs all the time. Why can't they put all the bits you need to ad onto one pop-up form? It would be much quicker this way. Or have I missed this feature somewhere?
You can just copy and paste in data. I added 4,000 new ad groups (including keywords & ads) on Monday. Took 30 minutes to format everything in my spreadsheet, 5 minutes to copy and paste it all into editor and about 2 1/2 hours to upload it all.
Interesting GuyFromChicago...I didn't think you could do it that quickly. Question for you, how can you copy 13 Adgroups per second into the Adwords Editor? Is it something to do with the Add Adgroups in Bulk feature? This could be really handy if it was. Are there any videos on using this particular feature? Looks like I need to create myself a tool to do this. I gotta say GuyFrom Chicago, I do value your posts. You always seem to come out with solid information that even experienced marketers can benefit from. Thanks again. Rep to you. Anybody got an example spreadsheet of how I can lay it out for a quick upload using Adwords Editor?
I put everything in excel and then just copy/paste every row at once into editor. My terminolgy may be off here (I don't have adwords editor on this pc) but there's a "add multiple ad groups" button in the editor that will open the promt where you ccan paste the data - gives you an example of how the data looks too. Thanks, knowing that some of the stuff I write down is helpful means a lot. Us PPC nerds don't get compliments that often Within the editor when you click the "add multiple ad groups" (or any of the "add multiple" buttons) you'll see a sample set of data you can use to format your spreadsheet. It's easy & after you get the hang of it you'll cringe whenever you have to use the web interface
I've played around with it now and can see how much faster it is doing it this way. This makes me focus on the next bottleneck: grouping the keywords for placement into an adgroup. GuyFromChicargo, may I ask how many keywords you put into one adgroup, as a general rule? Currently, I am just using: [keyword1 keyword2] "keyword1 keyword2" keyword1 keyword2 And do you use any of the keyword grouping tools to assist in grouping like-minded keywords together, such as Rapid Keyword software?
While it varies from situation to situation my ideal ad group has 1 keyword - hence the need for 4K ad groups at a time It's more work on the front end but the narrower the ad group the better one can target the ad(s) and landing page. Like I said it's more work but imo the benefits make it well worth while. No, haven't used any grouping tools in a long time. It's been on my list of things to look into again as I'm sure in some cases by not using them I'm just slowing myself down.
