Adwords and Analytics reports not agreeing

    Hi,

I stopped (paused) one of my adwords campaigns on the 9th of this month. On the 11th, I still was receiving adwords hits reports in my mail so I went ahead and deleted the campaign. After that the mails stopped coming.

But now the analytics reports show that I've been receiving visitors for Google(CPC) while the adwords account says there's been no click. Which of the 2 is lying?

    Thanks
    Deepak

    Dipaq,

Neither is lying. What you're seeing is the effect of Google Analytics having set cookies associating visitors to the campaign you've disabled. If I clicked on your link today and visited your site, cookies would be set identifying me as having clicked on that campaign ad. If I come back tomorrow, it would count as a new visit and be attributed to that campaign. If I return in a week, same story. The campaign cookies will by default expire after 6 months, or be gone if someone clears their cookies.

This is a great feature because it allows you yo track the latency that is very common for real people. Many people won't buy on an initial visit to your site. But they may come back and convert later. This feature of GA allows you to track that latent conversion. Again, very valuable.

    Hope this helps.
