Adword Match Type Help

Its been a while since I used Google Adwords. I'm fully aware of the differences between Broad, Phrase and Exact Match as well as negative match. Recently I looked into adwords again and have noticed references to and heard talk about embedded match. Having read a bit about it I'm still confused.

Could someone offer a simple explaination of what embedded match is, how it works and when to use it?

There really is no such thing as an embedded match type. It's just a term, one I hadn't heard in a long time in fact and had forgotten about.

What they mean by embedded match is using a negative keyword as either a phrase or exact such as:

    -"keyword"
    -[keyword]

    instead of simply:

    -keyword

Aarrhhh!!! Right, with you. I heard about it in a webinar a couple of months ago. A friend has asked me to look over their adwords setup for a second opinion and embedded match was being used. I have looked about on Google but just couldn't get my head around how it was different from broad, phrase or exact match. So its basically a negative keyword used in a phrase or exact format
