You can try the different light color for the outlining...

Short answer is you don't want to do that. The logo should be a transparent PNG(or gif) so it will float on top of anything.

    hope that helps,

You can add extra background of the text, with a lighter color. Choose your nice color combination here http://colorschemedesigner.com/ (choose triad style)

The best way to do that is add white stroke around the logo so that the red is separated from the background red. Or if you are unable to add stroke then you could just give shadow to the logo which will give a transparent feel to it but will differentiate a bit from the background.

Just as the poster above mentioned, use a wide white stroke, anywhere like 3-5 px or so, then could add a drop shadow to that. Or if you cant do the stroke, instead maybe a gradient and slight drop shadow.

Though I find drop shadows to be overused, it may work in your situation. A drop shadow and a bevel is an easy way to give it some depth.

if stroke and drop shadow doesnt help.., try add some inner shadow or lighting effect, and e little separate color, like : top is bright red, middle - bottom is dark red, sometime it works for me..,

It is generally inadvisable to stroke a logo or use filters or effects. Logo style guides often include a black and white version, white knocked out against black can work well. Or perhaps convince your client to rework the layout so that the logo looks good.

I would stamp it in the background... like you got a dark-red logo stamped in the red background.. you could add some white elements :) That's probably what i should do if i think about it :)
