Hi, I am thinking about restructuring my ecommerce site by taking out a tier and would appreciate some feedback concerning the possible pros and cons. At present the site structure looks like this; PRESENT STRUCTURE 1 Home Page (PR4) 1.1 Brand Page (displays all lines available in the brand) 1.1.1 Lines (displays all products available in particular brand line) 1.1.1.1 Product Page (displays individual product that can be added to basket) Positives of current structure • More pages and content to the site Negatives of current structure • More clicks to product page and conversion • Less link juice from home page to product page • More complex navigation PROPOSED NEW STRUCTURE 1. Home Page (PR4) 1.1 Brand Page (displays all products available in the brand) 1.1.1 Product Page (displays individual product that can be added to basket) Positives of current structure • Fewer clicks to product and conversion • More link juice from home page to product page • Easier navigation Negatives of current structure • Few pages and smaller site I would really appreciate any other observations. Regards Jimbob
yup - I would go with that - Category - search results - product info Keeps your clicks to a maximum of 3 with the majority being 2 clicks. So from your home page they click the category which will bring up the product search results and then they click on the product of their choice - this will make it a 2 click process. The 3 click process will be if you have subcategories within your parent category. so for example category = LCD TV - 1 click subcategory - 32 inch - 1 click product model selection - 1 click cheers
