Advice On Selling Domains

    Hello,

I have several domain names that I would like to sell. I have never sold one before so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction to learn the best way to approach selling.

    Here are some questions:

    * Is there a "basics of selling" thread in DP Forum somewhere?
    * Should I post in forums and have people respond or is it better to use third party resellers like GoDaddy's Domain Name Aftermarket? (If so, which ones are the best?)
    * What do BIN and "push" mean in selling threads?
    * What is the process of selling/transferring ownership?

The names I have are good for development; they bring in hardly any type-in traffic. Some examples of my sites (all are .com's) from different categories are:

    - BestTVSitcoms
    - MusicVideosSite
    - MyRealityTVOnline
    - NevadaForLess

    Thanks for your help, everyone.

Well I'm still yet to sell any of my domains, but I can tell you at least a couple of things. BIN stands for "Buy it Now", "push" is the term used for changing ownership of the domain to the buyer. Usually the process for selling is that you wait to receive payment, then you push to domain over to the buyer. Sedo escrows the funds and the domain to ensure a secure transaction.

I recommend that you list your domains on sedo.com just because it's free and they let try to sell your domains elsewhere while it's listed there. But I wouldn't hold your breathe waiting for someone to buy your domain there because literally millions are listed and only handfulls get sold each day. But it's still helps to have that extra channel open.

Thank you, Chaoward. I hope some of our fellow DP'ers who are successful sellers will give us both some more information.

I'm not an expert on this, but I thought that was only for some registrars. Like, for Godaddy and its resellers, they give pushes. However, for enom, there really isn't push to give...?

If you have small domains to sell (ones that you aren't expecting hundreds of thousands of dollars), posting it on these boards are fine and should get you offers.

one thing I will share.. if you find yourself with a high offer for your domain, TAKE IT! lol

I got a bit greedy and lost the buy - I'm planning to never let that happen again.

Set youself up with some rules.. set some prices for yourself and if you get a offer higher then expected, wait a day or 2 and take it.. or if you have money to use, get your domains appraised.. Godaddy seems to be the cheapest i'm found...

    Hope this helps..

I've read a few posts on this and it seems that the most common advice is to focus on 3 domains max as far as development goes. Then sell the rest. This way you can give your sites the effort and time they need to get them off the ground.

Good luck and keep reading all the forums. There is a ton of excellent information out there.
