A while ago I paid for somoene from DP to submit one of my websites to a list of about 100 directories. At the time I got alot of emails to notify my my website had been submitted to them, but since then I have never recevied any notification of approval/rejection. - Also it didn't really mprove my backlinks. So the question is, is it really worth paying for this type of service? They are usually quite cheap but if not effective there is still not much point. I find if i submit to other DP active members directories you usually get an approval and get backlinks as well due to geting a listing. Your thoughts??
Most of the directories give no notification of acceptance. I submitted my site to around 450+(almost all sites listed in the Info Vilesilencer list) but received only about 150 confirmation emails. Also some free directories may take up to 3-4 months even to review your submission. Better check for improvement in Search engine saturation using tools like www.marketleap.com instead of checking for backlinks in Google. Google hides many of the backlinks. Regards, NC
yes it is really worth since the paid directories would be of quality and it would pass some Pr to your site also and also there are many directories which charge you about $1 for submissions and you can get good amount of back links from those directories
I seldom send out acceptance or rejection emails on free submissions to my directory. The paid submissions always receive a confirmation or rejection email though. As for backlinks, I think it depends on the directories being submitted to by the service you are using. Out of the 100 directories your site was submitted to, probably 1/3rd will never accept your site, another 1/3rd will take a long time reviewing, and the last 1/3rd will give you some kind of benefit. I may be generous in my guess-timation. Most directory owners here at DP are excellent with thier admin and you will know if you have been accepted or rejected in a timely manner.
Depends what site you are submitting, quality sites usually get nice approval rate... MFA sites do not.
Hi Alistair, I know you are busy that’s why you paid someone to submit your site in 100 directories. And that’s true many sites don’t send the submission/approval mails. And I think, it’s hard to get trace of your link by just checking back links of your site because this process takes time. So, I just suggest you to ask that person (submitter), in which category he actually submitted your site e.g. "www.xyz.com/business.html" . Ask him to send the details in a file. And now your job is to check whether your site has been listed or not. You can do it weekly basis, if you are really worried about that submission. I can’t say that whether such type of services is useful or not. As I have never used it coz I prefer doing it myself.
Thanks for you replies adn advice. I think I will submit to the directories myself using part automated software. Might make it a bit easier and I will have peace of mind the job has been done properly. Happy Xmas Alistair
A couple of comments on the whole issue. Depending on the directories submitted to, you'll likely only see a small number accepted. Someone mentioned you might see a benefit from 1/3. I'd say its even less maybe 10-20% depending on the list. Someone mentioned if its not MFA you'll have a better chance. Not really depending on the directory. My example as per below. I submitted a solid PR4, DMOZ listed, 6 year old domain, unique content, hundreds of pages indexed in Google (most with PR3) website to over 200 directories that were listed somewhere (not new DP directories). That was done over several weeks at least two months ago. The site was submitted to the correct category ever time by me. I've only received maybe 10-15% acceptance. Now compare that to a daily review of DP and the new directories. With submissions from DP I'm at about 95% acceptance. Ok the pages are not cached in the big G yet but I believe long term its a better strategy since the site is listed. So with paid submission it really depends on the directory where your site was submitted. You could have a pretty high level of success or total crap.
Alistair, that’s good that you are doing it yourself but I suggest not using any kind of automated software in this process.
