Advice on how to create freelance marketing proposals.

    Hello,

I'm trying to get into freelance marketing. I'm going to start by hitting the major freelancing websites and trying to establish good feedback/reputation. I know for these websites you need to create a proposal for a job.

I have no idea how to go about doing this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If it helps, I'm going to try to start with having to deal with content generation and creating content for social media marketing.

Thank you in advance for the help I truly appreciate the advice.

You may want to lower your rates (while emphasizing that the lowered rates are mainly to get feedbacks) to build up your reputation. ODesk tests are usually a good way to start.

    @ethan,

I was pretty sure that I would have to lower my rates to begin with. Like you said, I'm going to emphasize that lower rates are for feedback and in no way reflect a diminished quality. Although I have never freelanced before, I have done plenty of marketing work from home. I have found myself in several situations where I had to do work at home and submit it electronically. I am hoping that experience will come in handy in this situation.

I'm trying to gather as much information as I can before I start, so I will be able to give myself the best chance to be successful.

Thanks for your extremely generous offer. I appreciate the help. I will probably take the test sometime between tomorrow and the weekend. Sorry for being so vague. I just want to make sure I choose to do it when I have enough time to sit down and make sure I am doing it correctly.

Thanks again for the extremely kind offer.

One piece of advice, I write proposal on a daily basis. I use elance (which i prefer the most) Odesk and Freelancer.com

I get more feedback from elance and oDesk.

    Note:
oDesk is very competitive and filled with maximum Freelancers throughout the world.
Elance is more professional and serious because of there feature and functionality. (You get to select one category of service to bid on per month)

As the freelance market place is very competitive, it is best to communicate to your potential clients in a personal way instead of copying and pasting proposal templates. Talk to them and show them you have understood the project and how you can execute it.

Clients will not bother to go through all the proposals so they look at feedbacks, total worked hours and bidding price.

Also make sure you have a complete profile including portfolio.

BTW: I am not an expert, my advice is from my experience.

That makes a lot of sense. I cannot believe I didn't think about it that way.
Which site do you recommend for the complete novice?

Try all three that i have mentioned. But you will need to keep bidding and sending out proposals. Chances are, you will get 1/20, But once you start getting feedbacks and some hours on your timeline it will be easier to get the projects after that.

    Good Luck.

Just make 2-3 finished projects. Show up your opportunities - try to attract a potential customers.
And find your speciality - php programming (for example).

I am sorry to keep asking so many questions, but this seems like the best place for me to get everything straightened out before I jump in and fail miserably.

Because I'm just starting out and don't have anything concretely established in regards to exactly what I plan to do in the freelance market, I would like to start small with short-term projects. Is one site better than another when it comes to getting short-term projects? (projects that can be completed in about 10 hours)

Thank you in advance everyone for all the advice.
