I've been successfully working with Yahoo's web building tools to create my websites. I'm trying to add a forum and chat room to one of my sites, but it turns out that Yahoo's service doesn't help with these features. They have informed me that they currently support PHP Version 4.3.11, MySQL 4.1.12, and phpMyAdmin 2.6.3, but don't offer any help in using them. I've never used these programs and need to quickly add the forum to a site. Can anyone offer advice on how to proceed? Thanks
Have you tried adding a subdomain forums.yourwebsite.com or directory yourwebsite.com/forums and install a forum software instead of writing one with PHP and Mysql... many people around here uses Vbulletin or phpBB. the former cost some money, the later is free. Both are pretty easy to install...
Where can I go to get more info about installing and using phpbb? I would like to go the route your mentioned and create a directory for my forum (mywebsite.com/forums). I've never used phpbb and need to become familiar with it rather quickly. Thanks for any your help you can give me. PS - I just discovered inform.com Has anyone used this service. I looks like something that might work for me until I learn phpbb.
Why not purchase a hosting account where you can install the forum with a single click via Fantastico De Luxe? phpBB Userguide: http://www.phpbb.com/support/documentation/2.0/ SMF 1.1 Online Manual: http://docs.simplemachines.org/
phpmychat comes as standard with many web hosts. alternatively theres the free chatroom code you can get from the BWDP Chat homepage - this is for a flash-based IRC client on IrCQnet
