I'm new here :) Glad I found you all. I have searched the forum but I still have a question.

I use Fastclick and make some money on my site, but not good enough. I have been a donation driven website. But I have had several companies approach me for ad rates but I don't know where to start. My site is a women's health and beauty site. Here are my figures for last month:

    Total Hits 27951227
    Total Files 15489037
    Total Pages 8802814
    Total Visits 532852
    Total KBytes 96342778

    Total Unique Sites 54915
    Total Unique URLs 2606
    Total Unique Referrers 3548
    Total Unique Usernames 1
    Total Unique User Agents 2790

    . Avg Max

    Hits per Hour 37568 80537
    Hits per Day 901652 1056656
    Files per Day 499646 591962
    Pages per Day 283961 336333
    Visits per Day 17188 23489
    KBytes per Day 3107832 3691262

I have installed phpAdsNew and am now working out what to charge and how. I need an easy way because I run this website by myself and don't have time to work out too much, which is why I liked Fastclick.

If you have any recs for a better software package, let me know.

Do any of you experts have any advice for me?

    Thanks!

PHPAdsNew is a great piece of kit. Stick with it.

    http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=mozclient&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&q=cpm+banner+rates

    Should give you some ideas.

It depends on how targeted your audience is. You can do a survey with questions like 'Will you be buying x related products online within the next 3 months?' to gauge their interest so you can relay that to the advertiser. Based on those findings you can alter those CPM values.

If you don't have a lot of time then you could ask what the advertiser's budget is. Give the first few exactly what they want then over time think of what yuo will charge the next new advertiser.

Thank you TOPS30, for the advice. I have been thinking of creating a survey for my website so that the next time a registered user visits she is presented with a survey screen - don't know how to do that yet.

I am nervous about asking people how much - I was thinking to make my life easy in the first few months, to make a flat fee per month advertising. Like $250 per month for all pages and $50 per month for the "Marketplace" page.

Not sure yet... I have large wealthy companies and small owner op business asking for rates. I would like to support small biz as well which is why I have the Marketplace area, but big companies can afford to drop more. I don't think I will be putting the rates for the main advertising public. Just for the marketplace.

I have given myself a deadline of the weekend to finalize my rates, so I appreciate your help.

Since my site is kind of new territory, I just set up a rate shedule for some different ads from text to banner. I'm going to see if I get any bites. If I get some I'll evaluate in a few months. If I get none, I'll adjust the ads lower.

I use a pretty simple rates card and am able to specify my visitors on that site are 16-18 years old Australian high school students.

I'm thinking about adding some smaller ad units too. As long as you have a few different pricepoints, they seem to be able to choose one.
