A little advice please! I have recently purchased some domain names around the Olympic games being held in London this 2012 with the idea to set up affiliate marketing. As an after thought I checked TM against some of the keywords in the domain ie. London2012 and Olympic to see quite a few online references that this may be considered a Trademark Infringement If I use the domain names in connection with a 301 redirect to another non tm domain, is this considered ok? Or do I cut my losses and learn a lesson?? Any thoughts, or experiences to share on this?
You're seeking legal advice from non-lawyers. The info you receive is almost always incorrect, and the person dispensing it is practicing law without a license. It's best to seek legal advice from legal counsel. I'm not an attorney and this is not legal advice, but my understanding of the law. That being said, trademarks fall under intellectual property rights, which are bounded by the borders of the issuing country. If you are in the US, you cannot violate TM rights of companies operating solely outside of the US. But if it is a global brand, then it's something to pay attention to as the TM is probably effective and protected in your country.
