Hi gang. I am new to this forum and this will be my first post. I run a financial based forum. It has only been 2 months since launch but I have received emails from people who would like to advertise on my site. I am not familiar with this and did not look into it as I did not expect this to happen so quick. I would like to ask the following questions. 1. Because of the nature of my forum, I am able to charge a higher rate than most forums. But I am unable to decide the "right" price. Can anyone advise me on how I should decide on this? 2. Do I need a lawyer to type up a contract? Or can I make something of my own? 3. Do I need to establish a company for the forum? Thank you. Any advice will be appreciated.
Can you PM the URL as I would like to be listed on your site To answer the questions 1. rate depends on your site traffic and PR 2 You can make up something of your own 3 Not specifically a company unless you use the company as your PayPal account, or the PayPal account can be verified in your name
Thank you britishguy. Unfortunately, I have not been a part of any google PR update yet so my current pagerank is zero. Although I should have a 3-4 by the time the next update comes. My potential advertiser likes the potential the site has and the fact that it is trading/finance related with fairly good content. How would I go about naming a price? What would be a reasonable price? Sorry for the newbie questions.. this is my first website and I have no clue. Ps: I will pm you my link
As far as pricing goes, I'd think that a PR(0) site wouldn't be worth much, if anything. If your site is 2 months old, then it should have updated to a higher PR over the last couple of days. If you have potential buyers for links on your page, then throw them a number, the worse thing that could happen is they say no way. My only advice on that would be, keep the number close to nothing, at least for the time being. If you expect your site to gain in popularity, make your links short term, don't agree to any long term link pricing. If you are currently receiving a high number of unique visitors, and you can prove it, then pricing would be reflective of the number of visitors.
PR doesn't update for new sites usually, wait for the next update or try checking the datacenters for changes in PR. It can be checked here: oy-oy.eu/google/pr Most of the advertising space I have sold online was part of simple dealings. I just gave them links and they sent me the one month payment in advance through PayPal, thats basically how it works. Although you could get contracts and legal bindings and all, whatever you want but most of the times there is no need for it. I am not a lawyer or anything btw. IT
Thank you Correctus. So basically I would need to wait for 2 updates to show any pagerank? Also can I ask how one can estimate the right amount to charge for advertising space? Thank you
Alot of webmasters use PR to determine how much they are willing to pay for links on that site. Although this practice is an inaccurate way of determining the value of a site or a link on a page, it is still widely accepted. Alexa rankings can help you to determine price too, but again, Alexa isn't dependable. I guess it depends on what you are selling...clicks or impressions, and how many clicks or impressions any given link could expect to get. Also, the relvance of your site to your customers site makes a big difference too. If your customer is only concerned with PR, then you won't sell a link. If your site is relevant to the content of their site, and you receive a good amount of traffic, then that type of link should have some value. If I had a site that got 1500 unique visitors per month(and I could prove it), then a link to a relevant site would probably be worth anywhere from $1.00 to $15.00 per month to some link seekers, but only if that link was placed on the page that received 1500 unique visitors and if the site was relevant to my content.
Thank you jumpen. My site is finance based and would most likely attract brokerage firms. They are able to pay up for advertisements because each client they receive will most likely triple or quadriple their income through commissions. I launched my website at the end of August. In September I received 3500 unique visitors. I expect this forum to grow rapidly. If I was to focus on banner placement, would I be able to charge somewhere in the hundreds range? Thank you
