Hi folks, I'm wondering when creating a directory, is it best to create it on a subdomain on a domain which is 19 months old and out of the Google sandbox, or create a brand new domain? Darren
Well, it's a new directory that I am developing so currently PR0. I'll be expecting PR4 or PR5 like the rest of my pages in the next update - but that could be some way off The advantage of having it as a subdomain is that I don't have to go through the Google sandbox. But I don't want it to look like a links page and I have a feeling that it'll look like that on a subdomain.
Does the sandbox effect even transfer from your main domain, onto the subdomain? I'm not so sure it does, or that you would gain any benefit by having it on a subdomain. Other than not having to fork out for a domain name, of course.
Obelia, Good question - I don't think so, but maybe someone could confirm that's definatly the case? W3bmaster, yes, I'm starting to think it probably is - as a webmaster, do you think having a subdomain makes the directory look unprofessional or links pages? Just to add - the directory is themed and is the same theme as my domain, so for traffic purposes it seems beneficial to keep it as a subdomain, but I'm confused!
Yeh, I'm going to use it as a subdomain or directory and see how it goes - I can always move it to a new domain later if it takes off. I just didn't want people thinking it was a links page.
