I just fired up a new blog a few days ago: All Things TV - TiVo, DirecTV, Dish Network Care to have a look and tell me what you think of it? I'm trying not to look too junky and spammy the way most other blogs of this nature seem. I'm posting frequently and with my own original content, not just links. Any advice on how to get traffic moving to the site? I'm doing ok so far, having posted to a bunch of directories. I'm hoping google will find me soon, though I don't hope to make it to the top of search results with the keywords I'm targeting. Anyhow, let me know if you have any thoughts. Much appreciated. -Gary
You may want to strat frequenting sites with similar content, and leaving comments (with your blog's address). My favorite PVR blog is PVRblog (duh): http://www.pvrblog.com/ Daily blogging with interesting content helps distinguish your site from the masses. Unique and interesting content posted to aggregators like Digg.com also helps raise your site's visibility.
Be careful doing this, you might be blog-spamming. Your profile name is there, and people can get to you if they want, try to avoind leaving links to your blog.
I've been doing it with moderation. I never leave a link without saying something. I think as long as you don't comment on every single post, and you say something somewhat interesting and relevant, you're probably ok. Or am I wrong? I know I wouldn't care personally if I started getting a lot of comments on my blogs. As long as they weren't just automated spam.
Well, I guess as long as the comment was relevant to the post, and it was obvious that you took the time to actually read my blog I might not care as much.
I get a lot of comments on my blogs that almost always link to other related sites. I really don't mind this, and sometimes I even check out their site. I don't consider it spam if they leave a genuine comment along with their link. But I really hate it when they say "I like your blog, come check mine out at blah blah blah". Don't do that! Honestly though, I think this is one of your best bets for traffic instead of relying on the SE's right away. Depending on what type of blog you have, blog exchanges can be good sometimes too. Cassie
When you say "blog exchange", are you talking about a link exchange between blogs, or one of those "traffic exchange" sites? Based on what I've seen so far, I think traffic exchanges are fairly worthless, but if you think otherwise, I'd like to hear about it. -Gary
I'm talking about traffic exchange. I agree, I find that most are just a waste of time, but I've actually had quite a few people bookmark me from blogexplosion.com. It seems the people that use that exchange really do read other people's blogs.
Huh, interesting. I always just assumed that people from traffic exchanges were just trying to get traffic to their own sites, and didn't care about reading anyone else's sites. I used traffic swarm for a little while, then I realized that I wasn't even looking at any of the sites I was clicking on. Figured that's probably what everyone else was doing as well. Maybe it's different for blogs somehow. -Gary
I've actually found some really interesting blogs on there and have been referred to other blogs as well that I've been a return visitor to. You can also check your stats to see who has bookmarked you. I haven't used it for awhile though cause I've been getting enough traffic from SE's to keep me satisfied for now.
