Hi guys, Really not sure where to start on this one I know what I want to do but not sure what script does it so any advice / recomendations most appreciated What I want to do: I run a city destination guide and want to add a gallery that is searchable by tags / words but also categorized. Heres an example: I have a photo of a bus. I want people to be able to find the photo through a tag such as "bus" but also the category "transportation". The search would throw up thumbnails of each image. If the visitor selected the image it would be screen size and have a box with two paragraphs of accompanying text something like: "Bus number 34 passing by the arc de triumph on the route between the Eifel tower and the champs elysses. This route has been functioning for 30 years and is one of the oldest in existence" Other things the gallery has to do is: - Permit visitors to uplaod their own photos with tags and decsription. Although these nedd to be moderated before going live. - The text that accompanies the photo must be able to contain links to anywhere. Using the bus example I might want to link Champs elesses to another page on or off the site where I have more information on this monument. As I said... I know what I want but don´t know how to do it with one script. Any recomendations greatly received. Paid or free scripts it doesn´t matter. Cheers, Angus
Is this going to be a stand alone gallery, or integrated with a forum or website? In other words, is this site going to be "just a gallery"? Or, are you going to have a website or forum to go along with it? If you are going to have a forum or website to go along with the gallery, do you want full integration, or bridged? Is the forum or website already in place, up and running? If so, what software are you using?
bilirkishi, At work at the moment and will look into them this evening, Thanks. Kev, The gallery would be a stand alone in a sub folder on the "interactive" part of my site. I'm using a .com for the main site (built three years ago) but it can't support the more modern functions therefore I purchased the .info version and have added things such as the forum, tours, hotels and directory there with the blog and image gallery to come. For the visitor there's no noticable difference unless they're fixed on the address bar. The parts are "stand alone" with where necessary a couple of buttons added to aid navigation back to the respective homepages.
You said forum, what forum are you using? VBulletin 3.8 comes with a built in picture gallery. Besides the built in gallery, look at photopost - http://www.photopost.com/ It offers full integration with VBulletin. I have seen some pretty big sites with thousands of images using photopost If you decided to just use the built in gallery of VB, take a look at this modification - http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=172215 It sorts your galleries on a single page for easy browsing. So there ya go. With one of those two solutions you have a commercial grade forum with a picture gallery.
Hi Kev, Ahhha! Now I see where you were going. My fault. The pic gallery will be completely stand alone. The website, forum, directroy etc all ready exist and the gallery will be linked to by each but there's no cross functionality. I´ll check out photopost later today and see what it offers. Many thanks for the advice, its always appreciated!
