G'day Forum I have spent the last couple of years transforming my work's website from something that looked like it was developed in the 1970's before Bill Gates even gave birth to the internet, into something that is both useful and respectable. Anyway, the website is www.australianracingboard.com.au and we are the peak governing body for horse racing in Australia. Currently if you search www.google.com.au we are ranked no. 10 for the term "horse racing" and it is my goal for 2009 to try and work our way up the rankings. If anyone is able to provide me with any advice, guidance or assistance in acheiving this, it would be much appreciated. I would also love any feedback that people might have on the site. I don't have a lot of experience in web development / management, so I am not sure if I am doing things incorrectly. We also don't have an IT department, so I have been trying to learn html and currently use NVU to update it, because we have a service provider, but they charge quite a bit to make changes. Cheers Jake
More links would help, try and search for other sites which are related to yours and maybe set up some link exchanges using the keyword you want to rank for as the link text. Also look for some more directories to submit to, check out the link building section of the forum for some better tips.
It seems that most of the content on your main page is dynamic. Maybe add a keyword rich introduction or something below it or at least try and mention the keyword more often on the page.
getting to no. 1 on google is tough, try getting good positions on msn and yahoo first and continue to work until you get no. 1 on google
It is all about inbound links. Try to get sites with a higher pagerank to link to your site. They should use relevant and keyword-rich anchor text when linking to you. And if those sites are relevant to your content, the link will count even more.
Yeah.Building more links will make a great help.It is not that easy to be on the highest rank in google. You need to be more patient and hardworking.
your competitors have more back links and higher link popularity. Try and focus on building more links like all the others are saying. Your almost there. Remeber Quility is key. There are many ways to follow and beat your competitor, you need to follow their footsteps and also be unique. Hard work will pay off, for you and your company.
Uhhhh, is anybody here giving advice on, "how to," actually on page one under the most typed-in keywords? Jake, you more than likely already know about all of this optimizing stuff. You just need to know that just because you optimize your site does not mean you will land high. It does not work that way. It is about being lucky. Everybody and their brother who knows anything about seo is also viying for page one, and not everybody can fit there. You can just do the best you can, keep getting links, and give it time. Besides, if you are selling a product, organic traffic is on the bottom of the barrel. Search engines are highly overrated when it comes to selling a product.
Get more backlinks to your site. Post to relevant forums and if the webmaster allows it, affix your website's url i the sig box. It'll take time to get to #1 so be patient.
My advice is simple... more backlinks.. Find new social networks, social bookmarks related forums etc... and submit your link
I ran your domain on a few diffrent seo tools that I use and have found a couple of problems in your site. Now I am not going to get into the website design since I myself love the way my website looks everyone else thinks it's boring. Anyway back to you if you want to get on top look at the number one spot that you are trying to aquire and study his content, keyword density for which ever keyword he is number one on, his backlinks, how often his site is searched by google, and find his link partners and ask for exchanges since they did good for him. Now when I ran your site through my grader which searches well of 100 diffrent aspects of your site you are missing quite a bit, your grade is 66%. The problems with your marketing campaign include too many images which slows down downloading time you have 23 and twelve of those are missing alt tags you may want to attempt either cutting down the amount of images or resizing them, none of your sub pages includes the metas for content or keywords which means the only landing page for a visitor to likely land on is your index and personally depending on the month and the way searchs are happening you will gain much more hits if you make every page on your website like your index so include keywords and content description on all of your pages, the readability is advanced which may make slower individuals unable you understand your content if you are using very large words then you may want to cut them and try to find words that are easier to understand, you are not in dmoz, yahoo directory, or zoom info which are the big three to get into you need to attempt to get listed with these sites, you have no blog which means you are missing pretty much millions that spend time in the blogosphere get a blog and a feed, you have nothing in delicious or digg you may want to try and utilize social bookmarking, a form was not found on your website which means there is no way for you to build a reach, and there was no twitter on your webpage which means again your missing ways for visitors to really let people interact with your site. Anyway I hope this was helpful.
