Advice for ECommerce Site - New Product/Domain

Hi, I'm looking for some advice regarding an already established Ecommerce site. The existing site is listed fine and is running well but the problem is that the domain is very specific for the product it is selling i.e. product name virtually is domain name.

Now I have a new product which I am looking to sell soon, it is basically the same as the existing product, same field, same target audience etc.. but is an upgrade with new features and a new name. I have already purchased a domain name for the product which is similar to the first in that the product name is basically the domain name. I do not really want to start a new Ecommerce site around this product and domain as I have lots of customers and reviews on my existing site and have a reputation for good customer service so it would seem wise to use this to help sell the new product.

I am unsure what the best way to use the new domain is. At the moment I have a product listing on my existing site for the new product (link on main site not visible to public as of yet but still accessible) which the new domain is 301 directed to. Unfortunately I am not that knowledgeable in the feild of SEO but I'm guessing that this setup is not fantastic for the purpose of SEO is it?

Does anyone have any advice what would be the best way to utilize the new domain keeping in mind that ideally the product will be listed and sold on the existing site?

I have had a few ideas to set up a small site based on the domain with information and instructions for use/installation with a link to buy linking to my existing site. If I was to do this and mirror the instructions on both my existing site and this new site for sake of completeness would this count as duplicate content and harm SE rank?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Edit: Sorry forgot to mention that at the moment any newly created site (and existing redirect) would be hosted on the main sites hosting/dedicated IP, would this be harmful? I could host it on a separate IP if this would really make a difference
