Advice appreciated:Move subdirectory within a domain to a subdomain with RewriteRule

Our website, www.aurora.se has grown too large and must be consolidated. The simplest solution appeared to be to generate a few sub-domains, move less important pages to relevant sub-domains and thus keep focus on our core business in the top domain.

    here is one such example:
    http://www.praktikplatser.aurora.se

Does anyone know the correct way to tweak RewriteRule or .htaccess in order to redirect links to new sub-domains of the original top-domain ( keeping the same structure of course) ?
Im sure everyone understands that it is most desirable to keep Google page ranking and searchability.

There seems to be very divided opinion as to the effect of splitting up a large site using a few sub-domains for low priority data. We wish to keep "traffic", wish to keep "Google page ranking", (obviously) wish to make the move transparent for our users. Some web analys programs count trafic to sub-domains ( Alexa is an example) Google is something of en enigma, nobody seems to know :) :)

There are a few different situations as follows:

    1. move a single folder to a sub-domain
    2. move an entire directory structure containing several folders to a sub-domain ( keeping the same structure)
    3. move individual pages from the root directory to a sub domain (maybe generating a new folder)

any assistance or advice would be much appreciated; including a few lines of explanation would instantly award you with Guru status . .

    thanks,
    /Vlad
