    Hi All,

I have a new project which I'm working on. I just got the domain and there is nothing on the page other thean the domain anme repeated.

Is it a good or bad idea to start submitting, buying links, etc.

I would normally think to wait till I'm done, but I was wondering if there are any golden rules out there which dictate early listings, sbumissions?

    Thanks

i would not advertise before you have content.

Otherwise interested users would turn away after they get the "under construction" page

I thought as much .. but it wouldn't really be a product site, just an info site. And the idea was to get it listed and once it's up, it's al;ready in google, etc.

But after some thought, I think that the SE themselves might penalise for no content.

Yes, the SE will. If they go and see that there's nothing there, I don't think they will come back.

I think that also to gain any trust of potential visitors, you should have a fairly established site, before you ever go throwing up advertisements on it. Unless you are just making a scraper adsense spam site, putting up ads before you give people a reason to visit the site, greatly lowers the quality of the website.

actually I'm not thinking of any ads as yet, not really sure if the theme requires advertising, but as I said .. was just a though.

I'll get the site up and running, get a few reviews of it and then 'hey ho, hey ho, it's off to google we go'.

    thanks all for the input

What I usually do is just place a blog on the site in the /blog file and then do a forward of the idex to it until I get it launched

I then grab a few articles post them with comments made about each article above and below the article .. 1-2 paragraphs each .. put about 20 of them on there and the add 1 - 5 per week.

Be carefull not to write in between the title and the resources box of the persons article .. but google can t judge where the article begins and ends .. so it sees it differently than usual and when you write your comments ... use alot of the keywords that describe the product you are launching - so that means searching for articles that are relevant to the product you are going to launch.

    I hope maybe I helped a little

I don't think that's correct. A lot of domain name registrars park your site with a one page under construction page. When I set-up a new site, the first thing I do is link to it from my directories, even if it's still under construction. This way, Google is "aware" that the website exists and goes to the home page while the site's under construction. I have often noticed with new sites that it takes multiple "Google bot rounds" to get the complete site cached:

First round: Home Page only (sometimes only header info)
Second round: Home page and pages linked from home page
Third round: Home page and all pages up to 2 clicks away from home page
    .... and so on.

Of course, the time lag between the rounds will depend on the quality (and number) of BLs linking to your site.

However, I will not recommend submitting it to directories while the site's under construction as most webmasters will just reject your listing and you might not be able to get back in that directory again.

Maybe not advertise, but definetely put up some relevant, keyword heavy content.

Links from others sites you own dont hurt either

I would tend to agree with the other posters on this one. Wait until you have relevant content as you wouldn't want to shoot yourself in the foot especially if you are launching something significant.

In the meantime, you can also prepare the ground for your promoting effort: store potential partner sites, niche directories, directories URLs when you come across one.
