Hey...do you guys have a schedule that you follow for advertising/promoting your sites? Like 30 minutes here, 20 minutes doing this, etc?

What do you find helpful for Marketing your websites?

Also, are there any courses, programs, or sites I can follow online to help
me promote my stuff in a more strategic and structural way?

    I NEED STRUCTURE...HELP!

    thanks

Bahaha, I hear ya on the structure and believe me you are not alone! Right now I just make sure I do two hours a night. But I need to do like you said and break it down. I think it would help track what is working and not working.
Or should I say time verses rewards type thing.

I do Craigslist promoting/marketing and always post up my ads early in the morning and reply to them late in the evening. I spend roughly 15 minutes posting ads and about 30 minutes replying to e-mails and make a nice little income per day for not much work at all!

More advice on this would be of great assistance. There are plenty of us who would benefit a great deal from being pointed in the right direction.

I don't mess with article marketing in article dumpers, or submitting to networks, or doing signatures, or any of that BS that doesn't work. I spend, I guess, about 5 hours a week scouring Google for webmasters to contact to pitch a proposal for placing my ads in their sites.

I will work on one keyword at a time. For example: sites for men. I will then search through the first 100 or so pages. Each site I come across that I like, I then use Compete.com to check how many monthly hits they roughly get. If it is enough, I'll send them an e-mail. I will then move on to the next keyword after completing the 100 pages, or so. So on and so on....

thanks for the replies...anyone else have an opinion?
i think a lot of us here are looking for structure/guidance.
    any other help is appreciated...

Also, any courses or sites that give a good method
for online marketing?? such as spend x time doing this, then
do this, etc - looking for some "game plans..." or structure.

Do you usually email them directly with a price or do you just ask them if they will even consider putting up an ad?

My primry promotion technique is video blogging on youtube and other video sites. I use a service called tubemogul to push the videos out to about a dozen video hosting sites. Some of the sites include youtube, break, metacafe, dailymotion, yahoo video, veoh, my space video,,,

Over the pat 21 months I have uploaded over 300 videos. These videos get a total combined viewing of between 10,000 - 15,000 views daily. This sends my site a steady stream of targeted traffic. If someone watches some of my videos, and then goes to my forum, they are around 65 times more likely to create an account then people that finds my site through google generic search.

Keep in mind that video blogging is not for everyone. It takes a vast amount of time and resources for every video I make. Most of my videos are about hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, and gardening. If I have to drive to the woods to make a hiking video, I could easily spend 3 - 4 hours on driving, filming, editing and uploading. But once the video is uploaded, it continues to work for my site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and all year long.

And the best part, video blogging on youtube is free.

For structure I use firefox. I created bookmark folders. For example one of my bookmark folders is called SEO-1. Inside sEO-1 folder I have the forums I use for research. Another is labeled SEO-2 and inside that folder I have social network sites (i.e. facebook, myspace, etc). SEO-3 has my article sites and so on.

Breaking it down into different folders helps keep me on track. It is tedious work that I can't sit and do for hours so my goal may be to do SEO-1 in the morning....SEO-2 folder in the afternoon, etc.

Another great tool is the firefox addon AutoFill Forms. I have my keywords listed for each site and when I'm going through my Book mark folders where a site asks for keywords, a right click of my mouse and I can fill in a form with one click.

It is such a tedious job. If I didn't have firefox to help me structure my efforts, I would be all over the place.

submitting your website in directories is helpful. also write articles with links to your site and submit in various article directories for getting free links back.

I don't typically have a set schedule, but I probably should and it would probably help me accomplish much more. Instead, I spend a lot of wasted time here on the DP forums. ;)

My wife is very organized and gets more done than I do. I'm much more scattered brained and have about 5 projects going on simultaneously.

    Both, teraman.

But they usually have ads already, so I ask them if they can take this kind of an ad, and, place it in a particular spot in their site.

If I feel that their price is a bit too high, I will ask if they could lower it to such and such price for the first month.

Since they know that I am a serious advertiser, I can usually get what I want.
