Promotional products with your logo really work, but you can't just give it to them as a free gift and thats it.

You have to have a strategy.

"-In my opinion you should have your website URL on each and every printed peice your firm has."
This is something that appears obvious, but apparently isnt. Any time you "touch" a customer with something physical it should have your URL on it. If you look at all the big companies, they do this too.

-Gorilla Marketing (hiring attractive waitresses from the local sports bar to dress hot and hand out promotional materials, free hats/shirts, etc during big targeted event where it was too costly for us to legitimately sponsor)"

If you have the type of money to spend like the original poster did, this may not provide the best bang for your buck, but if you don't this can get you excellent ROI. I pay a bartender friend at a very popular bar in the area to wear my shirt (she's hot) and talk with people when they ask about the site. It's a little extra cash for her, and my conversion cost ends up being about half of what Google's is. The other thing that has worked best for me is to use stickers/shirts from Cafe Press. I wear the shirts I've made and end up talking to people about the site. (someone posted a link about doing this)I've only been doing this a short time, but its helped drive my target group to my site.
