I have a text-based role playing game. I am finding it really difficult to market, now there is a rival game to us that opened just this week and has over 1,000 members in total whereas we have 170 members in total. I was wondering if you guys had any tips on good places/ways to advertise this sort of website. Just so you know, i'm not just saying this, but our game is lots better than theirs and has no bugs. Thanks in advanced, Millar.
But what really annoys me is that the rivals we mentioned haven't spent anything on advertising, it's like a few people got to know it and then they spread it by word of mouth, how can I find some people that will spread it like that?
Have you tried playing their game? I don't mean to sound rude, but maybe it's better? Maybe there are things your rival has done that you could learn from? As far as spreading word of mouth, I would try talking about your game on myspace groups. It could do wonders if done correctly.
If you were willing to investment some money I could help you market it and guarantee you a major increase in members and such. Just let me know
I have tried their game and it doesn't have anyfeatures we don't + we have more. Our game has been running since October last year.
Depends on what exactly you wish to get. Certain things cost certain amounts. If we are talking about a quick fix up of a good amount of members (limited time traffic - no not traffic but limited time new members signing up) then $xxx's and if its long term (make the site as big as possible) then $xxxx's
I feel that when we get members in a rush, it won't be a one time only because then that will leade to word of mouth, around schools, etc.
131,612 total players active. ^-- The stats of my RPG. Its quite easy once you get it going. I started mine with $50, now its worth a quarter of a million Been over two years, but its been amazing. You can easily market it, word of mouth, forums, other games, link trades, if you take the time to market it correctly you can easily make thousands a month. If you're looking for some advice and maybe even a long term partner let me know.
Millar, definitely word of mouth. If you made one, you probably already play rpgs with a strong community, so tap into that. If not, start getting involved in other community-oriented strategy games and then start pimping your site. Also, there are a ton of rpgs in different niches than yours who would love the cross traffic, so look into a link exchange. Buying ad space on the front-pages might be a good idea, as well. It always seems to me like adsense doesn't do much for game sites, seeing as how the ads will so often be off-topic. Tell ya what, though. I'll check out your game a little later tonight, and if I like it I'll pimp it to a few of the other rpg communities I belong to. And damn, Daz. That's amazing. What game?
Your game looks pretty interesting, I dont see what the problem could be besides maybe you need to spend more time putting links out there. Try to do at least 3 links/bits of advertisement a day.
If you are interested I can guarantee 1000 members within 2 weeks... PM me if you are interested... also I work out a deal of like 25% of the money before you get the members and 75% after the campaign. (Also it will be around the $XXX area... not that much and around 25-50c a member)
