    depends on many things. Most importantly is 1)what are you advertising, and 2) who is your target market.

    Ways to advertise.
    There are tons of free advertising on the net.
    Those will take lots of time to do every single day in hopes of getting traffic.
    Myself, I leave those alone except for forum postings.

    Ezine advertising.
    Trading links with like sites.
    Buying links with other sites (see the buy,sell,trade forums here).
    Submitting to directories (or again, the above forums for paid submitters).

    first determine what category of your site is, if you were to submit to directory determine what category, if in the forum use the forum sig, go to http://www.big-boards.com/ and search for your site's keyword and join as much as 10 forums that you wish to become active like 20 posts a day is active for me and then post there as much as you want helping others.
