Actually I've been reading what it's about and it might hold value for the user. IF you have a real competitive site that's ranked high, people will bid for the top spot on your site...

I think Google gets free advertising for ADwords, but you too can benefit if someone advertises specifically on your site, which in theory would mean their ads are targeted specifically to your visitors, which (again in theory) would mean more clicks, meaning more money for you.

    In theory, anyway.

In theory if a webmaster is interested in selling ad space to a specific advertiser, there is always the possibility of doing that directly - just add somwhere "Place your ad here!"... right?

Useing 'Advertise here is pretty much the same as hiring a commission only ad salesperson who handles all the billing etc.

I sold my own ads before adSense and I am geting a better CPM rate with adSense then I was charging on my own.

Well I have suffered lower CPC for a month or two now, but after the "Advertise on this site" link was added my CPC has gone up 0.02 , maybe a coincidence but it may be helping out without any work on my behalf.

I recently read an article about how little Google actually pays in comparison to other ad serving engines.

The final conclusion is that Google Adsense is so easy to set up that people don't really care. I've heard however that Yahoo ads pay much better.

Anyone here have experience in Yahoo's ads. Just remember that you can't have both on one page...

gstar: How do you know your increase in revenue is due to this program since Google doesn't seem to provide a way for you to know if advertisers are bidding for your site?

I'm going to leave it on for the outside chance that it may increase income...

Does anyone know if changing of that option is a problem for google?

I recently added it to see how it looks, then decided to remove it again.
It took two days until it was removed.

If you have several sites, and an advertiser chooses the "advertise on this site" way to advertise, I still think it works by keywords - so it's safe. In other words, if you have two sites - one about telescopes and another about football, I think the Telescope advertiser's ads wont show up on the football site unless they target keywords like NFL, etcetera...

Good question! I have not noticed any change in my earnings at all...I would be interested if there is a way to check if anyone is targeting my web sites in an ad campaign...

i dont expect to see an increase in income. Without it im already seeing a lot of targeted ads. If someone wants to target your site, they will know how.

To me 'Advertise on this site' is just a short cut for the targeters or just another way of telling them 'if u r stupid and u dont know how to target a site, click here and we can help u'
