Well there I was, playing a flash game, when something caught my attention. An ad IN the flash game. And each time it showed, it was different. I looked to the bottom and it said "sponsored by MochiAds." So I typed in www.mochiads.com and lo and behold, there it is. An ingame advertising system. This is the first ad company I have seen for flash games, and I personally think it is a great idea. Her's an article I found on it from November. They seem to still be in beta. http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/11/20/mochimedia-introduces-ad-network-for-flash-games/ Apparently they are the makers of the analytics software MochiBot (something I've never heard of either) and a reputable company. This seems like a great opportunity both for publishers and advertisers. It's a premature market, but there could be a lot of money in this. Post your thoughts...
Does it have to be something someone implements into a game when they make it? Or if someone has flash games on their site, can they implement the ads into the games themselves? Sounds promising though...
I'm pretty sure that you insert a code into your game's code, and then as the game spreads virally, the ads spread with it. It's a great opportunity for game developers as well as advertisers, which is mainly what I'm seeing here. What better way to reach the flash gaming audience? You pay on a CPM basis, which is great because the gamer's eyes are glued to the screen during pregame loading time (which is when the ads are displayed).
So if you create a game, and then it gets distributed, then the game maker (and not the site owner) would get paid, no matter what site the game was displayed?
Why limit yourself to Flash. This sort of advertising has been widespread and very effective for years. Many game or application developers with rebrand the hole program or menus within the program for a small fee. The important bit is that you let the games etc leave your website and send people back. I know you can do this with Flash .exe files but if you're using an exe it may as well be made with something more powerful.
Yes I think so. Like I said, to us as webmasters, the advertising opportunity is what is more appealing here. Why does it matter what type of game you put your ad in? I would like to do BOTH flash and other games, actually, but right now, this is a network that's designed specifically for flash games - which is a MASSIVE market. Just look at all the sites like addictinggames, miniclip, newgrounds, etc..
This is VERY inspiring! This is one of the MOST EXCITING things Ive heard in a long time! If it genuinely can produce a decent income from distributing my own flash games, it will be the MOST exciting thing Ive heard in a long time! This rocks as a concept. Imagine; creator owned flash games that in and of themselve produce a living for the artist and programmer. I've been approached by sites that wanted to brand my games with their site. They were essentially offering a modest sum; not enough to make it worth my while, really. BUT THIS! This can give an ongoing stream of revenue as people play and new players discover it for months and years. It would actually make it viable to do nothing but make flash games all day! This rocks as a concept, I say it again! chatmasta, thanks for posting this: PLEASE feel free to pm me anytime if you have more info about this. If anybody is interested in playing one of my flash games, you can check it out here: http://home.earthlink.net/~charlesartist/starbores.htm here's another: http://www.2flashgames.com/f/f-670.htm I got a combined plays of more than a 1/2 million on all sites for these these games alone! Imagine how well a good flash artist/progammer could do if he targeted his games intelligently in tandem with his ads! Not sure if this can be done with these guys; Im just learning about this now for the first time. Not even a month or so on this forum and aleady Im learning something with truely great potential! This is easily my favorite post so far! Thanks again chatmasta!
