hey guys currently running mysql 4.0.25 on one of my servers (well all of my servers actually but only focusing on this one at the moment), i don't know a thing about sql statements, databases so treat me as a fool obviously new versions of anything are meant to be improvements, i'm looking to see if upgrading to version 5 would benefit me and would i expect any trouble with my scripts? what benefits would i see in version 5? speed? stability? thanks for any input
the last time I evaluated mySQL 5.0 it was in beta or something, and it had an ugly memory leak, bringing my server to a halting stop...hehe - betas! Anyway they are out of beta now, the general impression is that mySQL 5.0 firstly gives more stability and functionality, security etc. .For speed, I cannot tell from experience. One thing that impressed me from all the other stuff in the features list is the Archive Storage Engine for audit reports etc. But anyways, I would also like to hear the general opinion of other members on this subject.
