    I've developed a multi website analytics script.
    Didn't have much luck selling it, so, in a near future, I might give it for free.

    Question is, what are the advantages of free web scripts ( for the developers, that is )

    Often developers embed a link to their store site so users click and potentially buy one of their paid services. Or offer a basic version free and more feature rich one for $$

    Good point @Highlandspring i would also like to add some developers advertise their free script on their homepage for email subscribers.
