    Advantages

    Dynamic updates from other people to my website.
    Frequent updates. When the RSS gets updated, my website gets updated.

    Disadvantages

    RSS links go to other peopls website.
    Can be bad for affiliate revenue and traffic.

    The advantage of RSS is that it is possible to get dynamic updates from other websites. The major disadvantage is that the RSS links go to other websites and can hamper the traffic.

    Your readers can subscribe to rss feeds and they will notify if there are new posts in your site. Your content can be republished in other blogs which we call autoblogging when using rss feeds.

    Please clarify, as I have the same question as OP. I get what happens when I publish to RSS. People who subscribe to my feed get automatic updates. My question: If I subscribe to an RSS, I can put this feed onto my site as content? How?

    The RSS feeds are links, not content. You cannot monitor/control how they will work. However, they are very important in getting found. Nice replies to the OP, this makes the whole concept clear.

    sending content is an important part of RSS there's also the option of submitting your RSS feed to rss directories and if your lucky spread your content...
    But thers still something you need to decide a costume in house feed or a feed burned by googles feedburner service
