Adult Website - What Age?

    Hi guys,

    been looking at adult orientated websites such as the youtube style sites and also sites with affiliated links.

    Now i was wondering what age i had to be to start up such a site? i thought it was 18 + but my mate just tried to tell me its 21+?
    i cant find much on this on the net.

    Im based in the UK but looking at a US host.

    48 of the US states set the age for viewing such content at 18 so I assume publishing it would be the same. Of course I have no clue what UK law would be.

    If you are hosting in the US I would think US law would apply.

    18 is the legal age to legally view adult sites.

    While some great answers here, you should sign up at an adult message board and read some of the posts / issues when starting a website like this. You just missed Internext, but look at some of their sponsors to find some attorneys who specialize in this matter. Also, go to some of the websites that are adult-oriented and read their TOS / AUP.

    A bit off, but I would consider getting hosting in another country - not in the United States. Find a hosting company that specializes in this as well - check out ChiliHost.

    If you host in the US you have to keep records, have the notification on the page, and give all sorts of statements. It would be a hassle, more than its worth.

    colbyt, UK law will also apply to him because he is in the UK and a UK citizen.

    I am pretty sure you have to be 18+ legal adult age because it is the age required to view adult sites.
