for instance sex.us or pornstar.us - are they allowed? I did some searching but only found parked domains...
I've never heard of a TLD having restrictions like that, it's generally the hosting companies or registrars that may have a problem with it.
you'll need to look through it. the FAR majority of registrars never terminate domains for legal material. godaddy's the only one I've heard of that's done it. finding a host that will comply is harder (but far from impossible)
.us is for US residents & adult content is not illegal in the US. You should have no problems unless the content is illegal.
technically it really could be considered illegal because our laws are so vague. essentially anything that would offend the majority of a community is indecent. horrible laws on the books. they actually cracked down on some sites for this a while back, but not so much for "regular porn"-- fetish type stuff, etc, was considered indecent and was getting shut down. same happens in britain, even more regularly.
eeeh, I just read on GFY it's not allowed.... What about .BIZ, do you know of any restrictions on that?
what is GFY? unless they cited a reliable source, I wouldn't believe it. TLDs are rarely, if ever, shut down because of the content. the domain registrar and web host, for all intents and purposes, are all that matter.
Nah he didnt cite it, NameCheap said it was fine by them but I asked is it was aloud on .US domains and they replied, yes some registars do not allow it. I searched the .us site and found nothing, perhaps i'll email them. www.GFY.com (18+ ONLY)
".us" is not a registrar. not sure if you miscopied the email here, or you're confused I believe they're telling you some registrars don't allow adult content (which is true), but that has nothing to do with the TLD.
I'll be your reliable source. Trust me. I am not posting details, but soon you'll learn it..most likely by mid next week. check who owns "fuck.us" and "tits.us"
Okay just so everyone knows .us names are not allowed to be adult! Just received message back from people at http://www.nic.us/
