I have read the FAQs and checked for similar issues: YES My site's URL (web address) is: http://www.foxyreviews.com Description (including timeline of any changes made): Hey in August I set up redirects for all my machine generated translation pages to 301 redirect to the default page. All my rankings had dropped due to I think duplicate content. Anyway it is done and slowly I check every day doing site:foxyreviews.com and the numbers of indexed pages drop slowly. however still traffic is down 80% from the previous year. Anyway today I try and doing site:foxyreviews shows up all the pages again. I do a http header check and it shows all pages are 301 so to be honest I am just really confused. I have sitemaps submitted for both foxyreviews.com and www.foxyreviews.com and the preferered domain is www.foxyreviews.com thanks, Matthew
Hi Matt, Let me try this out for you. I can see that your site has 74k indexed pages Please tell me what is a "machine generated translation page" and what is your default page to which they are re-Directed(is that your home page?)
A machine generated translation page is one in which content is translated into some other language using translation tools. Well, If you have redirected huge number of pages to your home page, this is certainly not liked by Google... I have seen a Matt Cutts's video talking about the issue. As far as translation is concerned, its is completely fine to translate content using automated tools.
hey there i stopped the redirect and changed all the duplicate translated pages to 404 to the index page as i heard google hates redirects an example page is www.foxyreviews.com/pornstar/show/34/fr/amy-reid.html and c.rebecca i disagree, i translated all my pages using machine generated translation and straight away all my pages dropped. i have read also others had the same problem, could you possibly link to a source please? thanks for the help both of you.
