Anyone else get the invite and are using it? I think they just activated it today (got the invite a few weeks ago), but I might have just been late to the party. Anyways, I'm testing it out right now on a couple of my sites. A couple are pretty high-volume sites, and the others are not so much. Adsense is allowing you to use the video ads (300x250 boxes) along with your 3 ad maximum, for a total of 4. It looks like a good idea, although I'm not sure how well it's going to pay. Anyone else?
True. Wish there were options. I also don't see any way to channel them (or am I missing it?) But I guess they'll roll those improvements out later.
I told them I was in, so I guess I'll put them on a few pages and see how they do. As for channeling it , when you make a new channel, choose +Add custom channel (link) and go from there, it will allow advertisers to see your keywords, description and placement of the ad before subscribing to your ad space. I'm not sure about how these are going to go and the are indeed a tad obtrusive and I will have a heck of a time trying to make them fit into the design without compromising the user experience. Right now the site feel is minimalistic...so how these blend in I don't know..
didnt we already have google video ads? my blog shows video ads from last 3 months...then whats so great about this? Please share
Well I guess it's still up in the air about what's "great" about it. To be honest I don't know if it's all that great. That's why we're giving it a try. But as I understand it, and as I see it working, it delivers a constant new stream of additional content to your site. For instance, if you have a music-related site (a hip hop site, for instance) you could put it in a very prominent location and every day you would, in theory, deliver the top hip-hop music video for that day to your customers, etc. They seem to be heavy with music related advertisers at the moment, with one notable, NBA videos. So that would work great for a sports site. But really, we're all just testing it out. No one knows if it'll be any different or better or pay more. I'm going to run it for a week to see the results.
I have used the NBA clip on the index page of my site and I have gotten a few clicks, although it appears only a few cents a click. I am sure it is more if they click on the link above the video, instead of just watching it. Tonight and tomorrow are my busy traffic days (game days), so I should have a better idea by Sunday on the success. I am going to pop a music one on the site too, to see if it pays any better.
hope i get invited.. really interested to have this video ads on site.. sure gonna attract many visitors.
I wouldn't worry to much about the invite. I have to believe once the trial is done, the release to all adsense accounts would come shortly after. Like I had mentioned it is not exactly filling my pockets but the I am happy with the format and it has a nice clean look to it. If you want to see an example of how it is implemented onto a website, you can look at the format at the link below. It is located on the right. http://www.legendsofhardwood.com/
Regardless the size, videos slow down most websites and violate the Disability Discrimination Act regarding making the Internet available to all developing user-friendly designs.
That is pretty neat actually. I realy like how it is related to your site. So do we have to be invited to use it or is it a new option?
that sounds like cpm ads, but i think that the publisher only gets paid for clicks on the link inside the ad block? afaik, we don't get paid when the video play button is clicked. one click on the play button of the nba video looked like it was playing multiple vids in a row(?)... maybe not the best way for google to do it.
yeah i think thats the case, simply viewing the video or whatever, we get no $$$, just when the links are clicked
