    Depends on your site.

If you submitted a non-developed site, "under construction", poor content, ad-farmer like, or with adult/gambling content, that is the reason why.

What's the URL you submitted with your application? WE can probably tell why by looking at it.

I am curious why gambling themed sites are such a no-no .... not an actual site to gamble at but maybe a site where someone discusses the ins and outs of poker - an information site only. After all, I know for a fact there are Adwords advertisers for gambling related keywords.

You can't even have links to sites related to gambling on an adsense site.

Denying porn and gambling sites allow Adsense to pretend they're "family friendly". Gambling and porn comes with stigmas; no surprise Google wants to avoid it, or at least give the appearance of avoiding it. Fact is, you can put your Adsense ads on these sites and Adsense will never bother you (as you say, there are ads for them!) -- that is, until someone complains about you. I've always maintained that Adsense holds a striclty, "See no evil, hear no evil" policy. As long as no one makes a stink about it, they'll gladly take advertiser money for such sites.

I recently removed my gambling links on my directory when I discovered I was not to have links to these sites on a page where adsense was present - but, there were relevant ads showing when I did have it up.

This has been discussed before... Google do not accept publishers whose content is adult or gambling realted but they do accept paid advertising promoting gambling and/or adult-like sites.

And you will see how soon those gambling contextual ads will be displayed right here, like happened before.
