I think it was only way to get stock holders off yahoo back. This way they make another 800 million a year on those ads.
I think Microsoft will stand idle, they would most probably be scanning through every single line of the agreement between Yahoo and Google to find any anti trust violations. With such a high combined share of the market for Yahoo-Google, Microsoft would most likely be using anti trust provisions to try to disrupt the alliance.
Yahoo tries to avoid to be bought my Microsoft so this is why they have decided to display Adsense-driven contextual ads.
Not really, they have already rejected Microsoft. The main fears was a proxy revolt, that's why they need to come out with initiatives that can be seen to make money and improve the company, hence the alliance with Google.
Well it is strange and it doesn't seem to me like a good idea. Anyway, don't you think it might be dope?
But how much money do they really need to improve their company? Yahoo has had such a large market share for sometime now, but their search engine is stuck in time. I think Yahoo needs to buy some sense. The deal only stated that Adsense will serve on some Yahoo searches, it doesn't mean all of them. Big companies like Best Buy, Nike, Wal Mart, etc. can afford to pay extra on searches. I don't think it will have a negative impact on Adsense publishers, or else Google wouldn't do it.
This is terrible news for adsense publishers. We're already making $.02 - $.03 per click ... Can't wait to see the average click drop down like like $.0025 now.
this is not good for adsense publishers ..this means more exposure to advertisers for adwords ...not much for adsense publishers....adsense publishers would experience lower CTrs and revenue as more ads would be shown on the yahoo network
Google wont do it if it has a negative impact Adsense publishers? Are you sure on that? If the relationship is a Win Win situation definitely, but if they have far more to gain I don't think they will care about Adsense publishers. You are not their employees. Google as a company will always go the path of maximizing shareholders' returns.
Not if it's going to have a large negative impact on publishers. A large portion of ad revenue comes from publishers, if that portion is sacrificed, revenue would drop for Google. That's why I think this deal must be a Win Win. Only so much revenue is generated from actual search results in itself, it's the in content ads that are gathering the most money. That's what Yahoo and Microsoft are lacking. "In a conference call with analysts, Yahoo President Sue Decker said the Google agreement will help Yahoo generate more ad revenue from so-called "tail" queries because Google's greater scale enables it to better monetize those less-popular search terms. Decker declined to say how widely Google ads would be served on Yahoo's pages." Pulled from here. The deal has yet to state that Google ads will appear on every search result, and I highly doubt that will happen, because Yahoo still has YPN. I think the ads will be displayed on less searched words that YPN can't fill.
