I just received an email from Yahoo YPN telling me I'M ACCEPTED! So, what to do? I have read on forums that - Yahoo results in a reduced CTR (but not 1/2), BUT Yahoo pays about TWICE the $. Therefore, total earnings is greater with YPN. Is this your experience? Other recent threads suggest removing low-CTR and low-traffic pages to substantially increase EPC, and total earnings. I could kill two birds with one stone by loading up the low performing Adsense pages with YPN ads - increase Adsense payout, and test Yahoo. Trouble is, that would be a poor test of YPN. Adsense good performing pages need to be tested, as well. Any thoughts?
All I know is I have applied to the YPN program twice since March 2005, and haven't had any replys yet From reading a LOT of posts and comments from folks that have joined YPN, they like it a LOT better than AdSense as far as earnings go...... When they launch officaly, I wonder if it will stay as good though ? What is your secret to getting accepted ? Congrats.......
I also applied about 6 months ago. I had given up. Rumor has it that I was one of lucky 2000 folks who got emails today, according to "Da Whacko". I have no idea why. I guess it was my "turn", based on being in line, and ??? YPN initial impressions - Easy sign-up, just like Google. Easy interface, just like Google. Even the ads are the same sizes, so it is very easy to switch over. I immediately slapped it on a page that G would not give me targeted ads for months and months and months. I immediately got run-of-network ads. This stinks, I thought. I checked back about 2 hours later, and SHAZZAM! TWO PERFECTLY targeted ads. What Google could not do in two months, Yahoo did in two hours. I IMMEDIATELY slapped it on 10 more pages. I am very interested in the passing of two more hours! YPN lets you "target" 20 categories, with over 100 sub-categories. I was going to try that, but there were ZERO appropriate categories. YPN's "targeting" is the same as Google, I think - the bots targeting is far better than the so-called "targeting" they give you. If the other YPN ads are as targeted as my first experience, there ain't gonna be any low CTR problems. I only have a few hours with YPN, but I sure do like what I see! <edit>OK. After 1 hour, the ads have changed on all 10 pages. Some are EXCELLENT, others not so much so. Now it is wait and see for CTR and EPC. If this pans out, the next step will be to replace 50% of my Adsense ads.</edit> (((I love bluegill - great fun to catch - not much meat, but oh so TASTY!)))
My experience with Yahoo was and is in the segments I have tested them in their inventory is lacking. Which creates almost non-existant ctr, which even offset by the much higher payout per click make them earn less money than almost anything else I could put in the same space. I have removed most of my ads for now... I am hoping that the removal of the spending cap for YPN might boost the total inventory in my segments and allow me to give it another shot.
How does YPN handle multiple sites? Do you need to apply for each one separately, or is it like Adsense, where once you are approved for one, you just slap it on all the rest of your sites?
Hi dazzlindonna, Good question. I just checked the 38 questions in the FAQs. No mention of this. Everything refers to "your site". Anybody?
Was just accepted to YPN I will need to edit some pages on my websites since their TOS does not allow competing contextual ads (Adsense) on the same page. Will test it out and compare.
The YPN Robot doesn't spider your site "instantly" so getting targeted ads can take an hour or so. I've noticed today that it only took about 5 minutes to start seeing good ads. My experience: I have a site with YPN ads that gets 0.00% CTR (after 8 days) when it had about 4% average with Adsense. At the same time I have another site that double digit CTR's with adsense but was paying very little, it still converts double digits and is paying 10x what I got with Adsense.
I just received an email from Yahoo YPN telling me I'M ACCEPTED! Now at least my worries about losing adsense is over, I have two back-ups. But to tell you all the truth, even with the smart pricing woes etc, AdSense has been a real blessing to me, and I will probably just stay with them, and use the others in emergencies......
I started this thread, so I feel obligated to update it. My initial optimism with YPN is now tempered with the passage of time. The utter lack of targeting in SOME CASES is remarkable. I am speaking of areas that must have many ads available - yet ALL the ads served, over and over again, are RON ads, such as this- (pic)http://forums.digitalpoint.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1764&stc=1&d=1131173235 One subject was prescription drug lawsuits, that produced only the ads in the attached gif. Ypn needs to work on their ad selection process. People say that YPN has all the Overture ad inventory, so ad availability should not be the problem. So where are the ads? I just updated this, for those interested - http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/internet/adsense-vs-ypn.htm It includes all that I have learned about YPN ads, compared to Google Adsense ads. .
