AdSense vs. CPM (Questions)

I’ve done a fair amount of reading on CPM but I’m still a little confused.

With websites where you have the same people (for the most part) using the website on the same day in most cases wouldn’t you be better off with a solid CPM?

This forum is a case where I’m confused as to why (Shawn I believe is his name) doesn’t run a good CPM instead of AdSense.

I’ve read posts where people have guestimated about the amount this forum earns from AdSense and it seems to be fairly substantial but I think most members (like me) have never clicked on an ad so the amount of earnings coming from us is exactly $0. If a CPM program was used we would at least put some money in his pocket.

The other advantage of a CPM (I think) is that your earnings would be ‘locked in’ to a certain degree where as AdSense will fluctuate. I only have my own experience to go off of but of all the websites I visit on a regular basis I don’t think I’ve ever clicked more than one ad on each of these websites. Sure that particular website might have earned $0.01 to $2 on that click BUT that’s it. After that I’m no longer profitable to them whereas they are going to earn a small amount each time a visit the site with a CPM.

I must be missing something because obviously Shawn and many people here know more than I do.

The only website I’ve seen that in glancing I couldn’t differentiate the ads from the rest of the website is Plentyoffish.com. When I started reading about AdSense earnings Markus and his site were listed as the top dog. I started poking around on the site to see how he was doing it and I have to say he does a phenomenal job at incorporating AdSense into his site but I think Plentyoffish may be the exception. At this point I believe Markus is selling his own advertising which obviously is the best way to go if you can find people willing to pay for it.

Much like reading a newspaper I think most people have learned to tune out the advertisements so wouldn’t you want to ‘lock in’ your earnings with CPM?

Also, can you run AdSense and a CPM program together or would this (somehow) do more damage than good?

CPM is a good idea, problem is you cannot find a stable CPM provider gives you fix amount of money. Even AdSense CPM by display pictures, will not pay you a fixed amount for CPM neither.

My point is: there is no good CPM out there.

Another thing is about AdSense in this forum, I click, I click lots. Since you know the rule, Shawn cannot ask us to click, but I believe he want to :)
