What should one take into consideration when determining to which route to go. I am going to make a Dog Website that is going to cover various topics. But I cant determine if I should go with Adsense or Affiliate Programs.

How targeted your traffic is - If it's really targeted to buy-now keywords, I'd go with affiliate offers

How much the keywords pay - If you're only going to get $.04 per click, it would take 500 clicks to make $20. On an affiliate offer, you would make this much on one sale (obviously depends on the offer). Also, you'd probably get more than one sale from those 500 clicks.

On the other hand, if the clicks are $1 each, you might want to go for the auto-pilot profits of adsense (assuming you can keep the traffic going)

Lastly, you should think about who visits your sites. If your site is a webmaster hang-out, most of your readers are going to be ad-blind, so if you can get a lot of traffic, you might be better off with CMP advertising or affiliate offers with banners

I'd try various types:CPA, affiliates, and contextual ads (say you've got 30 pages in your site, do 10 pages of each). Once you've had enough traffic flow through the site, you can look at your results and go back and change all the pages to whichever method proves most profitable.
