depends on which one suits you most. i myself like affiliate marketing lot better than adsense and only use adsense on sites where affiliate products are no good match. affiliate sales pay way better than adsense also
Sites with low traffic should use only adsense, because if you have dont have a lots of traffic, affiliate is NOT FOR YOU. And If you have lots of traffic...both are good for you.
I have tried several affiliate programs since 2004 but I didn't have any luck... I am having substantial amount from adsense.. it depends on where you are comfortable with..

At same time on other sites, which I did not have enough time to SEO for the exact affiliate products I offer, adsense is good way of small continuous earnings, although I am still offering my affil. on them and from time to time sell smth...
That depends on your interest . I am working on adsense from last two years and now making $300+ around monthly . I am learning affiliates tips and working on them from last six months and now earning $500+ monthly .
I think adsense is better. It depends on how much traffic you have and what are the keywords present.
Generally affiliates provide more earning but this can be different from case to case basis. However, adsense is more towards long-term commitment unlike affiliates which die off after some time, and you have to go about promoting new products.

Some sites simply can't work with affiliate programs (like video sites and flash game sites), those are pretty much the only time when you should consider Adsense or any other ad program.
CPA or CPC depends on your website's niche. Their are niches that work better with CPA ads and others with CPC ads. When you have a site about gaming for example the conversion rate is lower because of your 14 year old audience. Most of them don't even have money so they will not buy anything. But when you have a website about dogs for example, then the chance that your reader buys something is higher plus he probably pays more which means you would get more money.
