Sometime an affiliate conversion can make you big bucks. Maybe the earning amount is more than 100 clicks on your Google Adsense earning. Therefore, do both, you have nothing to loose. If your affiliate is not convert, Adsense earning may somehow motivate you a bit.

Of course, in order to make affiliate sales convert. The site traffic has to be targeted.

Lots of fielding and investment is needed in affiliate marketing and in adsense just place the code, sit on chair and watch the clicks come through or not........
affiliate is tough, if it comes out successful for men then he is in $$$$

A lot of it depends on "what" your trying to sell through the affiliate programs. I have heard of people building car sites, having nothing but Ebay affiliate ads and making a small fortune. Because they are earning a commission on sales that are several thousand dollars.

On the other hand, if you are selling books, you are going to have to sell thousands of them to equal the sale of one car or truck.

If your targeted audience is going to buy low priced items, you might be better off adsense.

Personally, I like to use both types of ads on my sites. That way they appeal to different types of people.

Affiliates give you more many and better ROI. But you need to know what you are doing and require a special kill set of promoting while not seeming to sell.

Adsense can be a good earner if you have a very high traffic site.

I think it depends a lot on the site you're placing it on. There are a lot of factors to consider before you decide to go Adsense or Affiliate ads.... the niche, the quality of traffic you're getting, so on and etc... I've had some sites do really well with Adsense while similar sites in a different niche make hardly anything at all with Adsense but do really well with properly placed affiliate links.

Test it, test it again, and then test what you tested ;) Eventually the right answer will fall on your doorstep!

Affilaite marketing is not how many your traffic is but it is entirely depends on how targeted your traffic is.

I vote for affiliate. I'm still using adsense and it doesn't deliver the results as what affiliate delivers. At least, try to sell the space you run adsense ads privately. It is more profitable compared to the adsense earnings.

Affiliate program pay much higher compare to adsense. However, adsense is paying you once you get click which is more simple than affiliate. All is depend on your website, compare the result, then you will know which is better. As you mentioned that you get alots of click without action, then definitely adsense is better for you

I don't like adsense at all. I prefer affiliate marketing as with just 1 sale I can make a huge amount of money.

I've been blogging since Feb. 2008 and have tried both affiliate programs and adsense. My blog is about frugal living (saving money in everyday life including home & garden) and personal finance. So I've tried affiliate banners for all sorts of businesses including Walmart, Overstock, Amazon, Netflix, insurance, etc. - anything related to my site's topics.

But ultimately, my earnings from over a year of affiliate advertising is about 1/7 of what I've earned from AdSense.

If your site is getting a lot of clicks, why not focus on adsense first. Run this for like a month or so. The thing with affiliate programs is that if you don't have the right product coupled with a lousy landing page, then it will be quite challenging to push this money-making tool.
