    Adsense tips

    1. Check site stats and adsense reports
    2. Good ad selection
    3. Up selling
    4. Text of a page
    5. Page update
    6. Heat map

    1. Check daily adsense report and site stats.

Daily page hits should match the adsense impressions. If page hits are more than ad impressions, it means suitable advertisers were not available. Other reasons could be,

    a) Page viewers may close window or move away, before a slow ad banner downloads.
    b) Adsense robot fails to determine what ads to send.
This happens when a new page or Old page with changed text is published.
    c) If too many URLs are eliminated, ad space remains blank.
    d) There may be delay in reporting impressions and clicks.

Avoid using dark color backgrounds. A white blank space in a dark page has negative impact on a viewer. A white background is always safe.

    2. Ad selection.

Selection of ads has a direct bearing on earnings. The ads, which appear in sponsored links in search results, are high CTR ads. Highly optimized adwords
draw the attention of viewers. They get the highest number of clicks among all the bidders of the same keywords. They are charged the minimum bid rate offered in PPC billing process. Adsense publishers are paid a share of the lowest prevailing bid rates.

On the other hand, a high paying ad appearing in adsense bar has low CTR. We have seen how bid rates vary 50:1 for the same keyword in our page on adsense
    bids.

If an adsense publisher eliminates all low paying ads and allow only others, his CTR falls drastically. But his earnings may improve dramatically if he gets high daily traffic. Elimination of low paying highly optimized ads carries the risk of showing white space very often. He gets less number of clicks. Easiest way to identify a low paying ad is to check sponsored ads in search results. These ads are low paying.

    3. Avoid ad repetition

A smart reading, low paying ad may appear in many pages. No unique visitor will click on it twice. It would be safer to increase banner size to 4 ads. A single ad space may invite trouble. A repeated single ad looks more like spam. Eliminating any repeated ad increases adsense income. A spam free website always wins.

    4. Up selling.

Most of the publishers launch a website with certain basic ideas on a particular topic. Some publishers do keyword search to estimate financial implications of a variety of keywords. Popular high paying keywords have bid rate ratio of 50:1 or wider. But low paying keywords have much narrower gaps between bids. In either case, the publishers find average earning per click less than estimated.

A successful publisher goes for up-selling in websites. He provides links for low traffic, high-income pages in their own popular pages with high page hits. The low traffic, high-income pages do not get any search engine rankings as the website is based on entirely different topic. Up selling brings in good earnings. Bloggers do much of up selling to boost earnings. They talk of local weather and drift to
tourism, hotels, jewelry and so on.

    5. Page text

Adsense is a contextual ad banner. Adsense finds contextual connection between page text and adwords provided by advertisers. A special algorithm
determines the context of the page text and selects ads for adsense bar. It all works very well, if page text is focused and point to a specific keyword related topic. If enough number of advertisements are available with adsense, related ads land on publisher's pages. If the page text is diffused and keywords are diluted with other irrelevant matters, the adsense algorithm looks for broad matches with
certain page sections. Publisher finds ads not quite intended for his page. Expert publishers usually write 3 to 6 paragraphs only in their pages. Each paragraph
clearly emphasizes the keyword. This enables the adsense robot to easily find the page context.

    6. Updating pages.

All pages carrying adsense bar should be updated at least twice a month. Updating a page is an essential feature of optimization of adsense. Change of words, reframing paragraphs, adding or removing sentences will enable a fresh visit of adsense robot. Perhaps a better group of ads will appear. Updating surely brings in occasional high paying ads. If nothing needs to be changed, change the date. Page updating improves search engine ranking leading to higher traffic.

    7. Heat map.

As suggested by Google heat map for optimization, the largest rectangle on top left position is the best size and location for adsense. Do not change page text
font size to match adsense text. Adsense in any other position brings CTR down.

    8. Adsense dos and don'ts.

All publishers are required to read adsense policy and terms of service. A quick browsing of these pages, whenever told, helps to avoid mishaps. Write to adsense group, whenever in doubt.

Dude, stop posting other people's articles as your own. Either give credit or stop it. You can slap as many stolen articles as you want on your blog, but don't taint DP with your unethical behavior.
