Again, this to me seems pretty risky. Am I the only one?

If I am correct, AdSense states in their TOS that as a publisher,
    you should not

    1. Place images next to ads.
    2. Mislead readers into clicking ads.
    3. Trick or deceive AdSense

If I were an advertiser, I wouldn't like this method.
I mean, I guess it could go either way. But anytime something
could go either way with AdSense it's probably not worth the risk.

I think you are misunderstanding me and getting this all wrong. I am not placing images next to ads, the box beside my ad on the left is another adsense ad set to show only images.

There is nothing wrong here simply a text ad on the left and an image ad on the left placed above the fold and increases all my ctr on every website or blog.

Quick question: how do you instruct adsense to show only images?

    There's nothing wrong with it.
Two google adsense ad is placed in one place

    example place ad

    336x280 beside 336x280

    :p

I just use the wordpress theme with the same theme that places
    ad in that way..

see the wordpress theme that i use.
there are about more than 400 users using this theme

    :D

I'm not misunderstanding you. I know what you're doing. You're showing an
AdSense image ad next to an AdSense text ad in hope that they both relate.
Thus, attracting the user to the text ads by making the user believe it relates
    to the image ads.

I agree in adsense TOS they state that you should not place an image next to or around an adsense ad. This is in relation to people place single ad text boxes below pictures and there was a time when you could also get away with placing pictures of people holding your adsense ads to spice them up abit.

Google have said nowhere that it is against terms to have to adsense ads beside each other so its fine.

How about placing AdSense text ads besides an image ad of a different company, like CJ? Is this allowed? I'm planning on implementing this on a few of my niche sites.

Now that I would be unsure about, I would in my opinion contact google and ask them about it first.

I think this basically sums it up man. Aaron - You may want to contact Google
and see if you can be sure of your own tactic in my opinion.

If it's not against TOS, it really is a good tip as long as the image ad is
somewhat relevant to the text ad.

I mean, if you have a picture ad of pancakes and then text ads next to it that relate to
tomatoes, your readers are probably going to think you're on crack. = Low CTR

Still, the best AdSense placement is smack dab before the content of a post starts.
