This is a very intresting question beacsue until recently I use to have images only on my homepage www.unibuddies.com However I do not know wheter its becasue my site is a nice but the text links seem to pay much more than the image links. Sorry I can not answer which get clicked more but from my experiance the text links get much more money
My textlinks fetches more than images. I have created separate page for images and text links. Text links not only gets more clicks but also gives more money than images. (cathealthcareguide.com)
I have mine set to both text and image ads but I prefer text ads I think. I don't get lots of image ads, most of the time it's just text links and they do well.
In my experience across a variety of sites image ads don't perform as well as text. I find, text based ad units best, then link unit ads, then the image. However, on sites that have good internal traffic (a numbers of pages viewed per visit) having a split between image and text ads can be useful as it draws the persons attention to an area that they may otherwise have tuned out with ad blindness. Try a number of split tests and see what's best for you, perhaps do all image, all text, and a variety of ratios between text and image. I've found that the click through goes up on the TEXT ads when they are split with image ads. The image may not get a click, but it is increasing the awareness of the ad space for the visitor. Run the test for a while and crunch the numbers, you need all text and all image for baseline figures, then the different ratios and work out what gets you the best return. You can also try this technique with other ad vendors, such as Chitika, and splitting adsense with chitika.
in my sites the image banners looks terrible (ugly design and colors) so I always use text ads and I know always how will it looks like
I run and experiment about this, you can read it tomorrow on my blog. Anyway "only image ads" have a higher CTR but they are paying less.
Exactly. If you set the option to show both, everytime an image ad will show up it will pay more than the text ad.
It really depends on what you prefer and how your site is. If you have other images might want to go with texts+images, others prefer just texts. It's really just personal preference.
I've had better results with a square text ad floated in the article and a skyscraper image ad on the right column. As opposed to both ads being text. Less ad saturation, an graphically apealling. I get more clicks on the higher paying ad unit, the square text ad, which is first in my source code.
I prefer text links. I must admit that there is much more advertisers that uses text links so you are more likely to get a higher earning per click. The reasons why there are more text link advertisers is quite simple. Making a text link campaign takes a few minutes while making an image can take quite a while and it has to be very creative.
