If you live in the U.S does adsense take the taxes out of your check automatically or do you have to file your gains at the end of the year? thanks.

adsense doesn't take out any tax, none of the publisher or affiliate program does. you are responsible for filing your tax return end of the year

You are responsible for reporting any income earned from Adsense on your annual taxes. Google doesn't withhold taxes, so you will be responsible for paying these at tax time.

In the US, you'll file all of your affiliate related income (including Adsense) on Schedule C of your tax return.
