I originally posted this question on the Adsense help forum, but I haven't really found an answer, so I'm hoping that perhaps someone here can provide better direction. Ok, here's the situation. 1. I verified both: www.example.com and just example.com both of these are for the same domain. 2. I then submitted a sitemap for both www and non-www versions. Can anyone think of any reason that this will hurt me with Google-either for Adsense, or in the rankings? I know that I screwed up, but please be gentle-I'm still pretty much a newb. In my site and on other sites, I originally used both www and non-www for linking and I've since been in the process of changing everything over to non-www since that's the prevalent way that Google appears to be indexing me. 3. Additionally, in Google Webmaster tools, I have the choice of specifying www or non-www, at the moment I haven't specified one way or the other, but I'm leaning towards non-www; although, in light my previous actions of including both for verification and sitemaps, should I just leave it alone. Phew, if anyone is still with me God-bless you. I know that I'm asking a lot, but someday perhaps I can help you (maybe you'll need your toilet cleaned or something.) -Weisus
if your website works without www then I recommend you use the non www website as it would be much more convenient for people
Guys-thanks for the feedback, Since the original posting, I have specified the non-www version of my site. I still have both versions verified and a site map for both, so I suppose that I will use this as a testing grounds for setting things up this way. If anyone is aware of any drawbacks to this-I would definitely appreciate the enlightenment though. If not-I'll maintain both forms and periodically update this post on my findings. I have checked all over the web and haven't found a reasonable answer as to whether it will help or hurt my site-so who knows, hopefully it will help.
