adsense & site development advice (too adsense or wait)

I am interested in any optimization techniques for sites that I am currently developing. I have 4 sites currently, to direct busienss sites, a content rich advice site, and a directory. I am working on the directory currently and the two business sites are up and running.

My specific questions center around the generation of traffic and the use of adsense on directories? Is there any gotchas there? what is the base expectation for my launch with adsense? Should I launch the site without adsense until the traffic levels are predictable and sustainable before including adsense?

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to maybe put 1 ad unit per page in a not-so-obvious place in the beginning, then modify your ad unit layout once you start seeing some decent traffic. Don't expect to see too much from adsense in the beginning if your traffic levels are low and you are trying to be discrete about your ad placements. Focus on generating well established content and gathering traffic and your sites will prosper.

As a follow-on does it make sense to blend potions of the site with both google and Yahoo PPC's? Ihave heard many discuss the payment schedules for each and Google take much longer to actually get cash in hand. Any thoughts

Actually i've the same question because in low traffic site clicks on adsense will repeat from the same IPs alot and it will be considered click fraud

while when you have much or decent traffic - repeated clicks on ads from same IP won't e so obvious among the others

i mean repeated clicks in separated times like 12-24 hours not repeated clicks in 2-10 seconds

I see no redeeming value of placing AdSense on your directory site. Your directory should be targeting advertisers, which make you money. Why would you want to steer a potential customer away with a silly AdSense ad that takes them from your site (AdSense pays so very little - why bother!).

It's always much more beneficial to sell your own ad space - that's what a directory is for.

Make sure your other three sites aren't hosted on the same server as your directory. Your other three sites should be linking to your directory, thus creating valuable backlinks and allowing your directory to rank higher and find you more customers for advertising on it.
