I'm revamping my site slightly and want to put the search button onto an area that has an image as bacground and not a solid color.

Am I ok to remove the bg color and leave it blank, so it looks ok on top of my background?

    Thanks,
    mike

Google says you can't touch their code, but I've seen people "touch" it plenty, from minor changes like "checking" the website button instead of the Google button by default, to more elaborate cosmetic changes. So, who knows. They always tell you not to do things, but the level with which they care enough to ban you/email you about it seems to be in question.

Actually, when you look at the sample AdSense for Search in the AdSense user management screen, you can change it to check the website button from there and it will generate the right code for you.

Is that a new option? The last time I took a look at the search code/options was mid-2005.

Does that actually work? If it does, I don't think it violates any Google TOS.

It's been there for quite a while. I just think most people didn't realize that by checking their site it would change the code.
