Hi all, ive setup a adsense for search but it doesnt seem to be working... I setup the folders that i wanted to search but its not working, i used the following option:

    Search the sites I select

The I entered the folders I wanted it to search as follows:

    www.mydomain.com/archive/2002/*
    www.mydomain.com/archive/2002
    www.mydomain.com/archive/2002/

as you can see i tried every option suggested, but it keeps coming up as nothing found when i search for something that is definately in the folders.

Does it take time to work as the adsense for content does? If so, how long?

Ive done a few of the adsense for content and not had a problem, and ive checked the code and verified the folders and pages exist...

    thanks for any advice.

For custom search... I would just use the (domain.com/) and give Google some time to index the pages and change meta descriptions/tags etc and in time you should have a great search. Google have some useful tutorials if you are getting stuck matey.:)

When setting up the Google custom search, it will ask you to allow which sites... If you put (www.yourwebsite.com/) then this means that you're telling them to index every single page/post that you have on that domain, but this will not include any sub domains if you have them.

If you go to Google and type (site:www.yourwebsite.com), then this will tell you how many pages are currently indexed in Google's search engine. Whichever pages show up in this search should also appear in your new custom search that you have put on your website.:)

ah... ok, that makes sense, i put it on a previous site and it worked straight away, but that site was already indexed, but this new site isnt yet, that will be why its not working, i'll wait until i get a response from site:mysite.com

thanks for clearing that up with me!

It's a pain waiting for new sites to get indexed, but if you try an build up backlinks fast then this will help to speed up the process. Usually new blogs can get indexed in days (new posts from aged blogs in minutes), but not sure how long a general website would take these days.

Just keep checking up on Google anyway, Good luck.:)

This is one of the few occasions where a sitemap submitted to Webmaster Tools can be helpful. I've used this in the past to get all the content I want searchable indexed in no time at all.

hi Paul, yes, I have already submitted the sitemap on Webmaster Tools, just wasnt sure about the search bit and it being related to the site being indexed... all sorted now, many thanks!
