Adsense Sandbox Tool question

My first blog is a few months old called My Second Million - a blog on the topic of 'How to Set up a Blog and Make Money Online'. It has Adsense installed on it. Out of curiosity, I checked my Home url in the Adsense Sandbox tool on Digital Point, and was surprised to see that the ads that came up were all dating and other general 'entertainment' non-blog topics. This tool produced no ads relevant to my blog at all.

When I entered a url for an article on my blog, the appropriate types of ads did come up. I currently do get a variety of ads appearing on this blog - seo, wordpress, design, blogging, etc, plus 'Entertainment', Finance and Travel.

I haven't ever used Google Adwords yet, so don't know exactly how the system works from an advertiser's point of view.

I thought I understood that Advertisers choose/pay for, specific Keywords using the Google Keyword Research Tools. Or that they purchase keywords, and then Google chooses the sites.

If that is the case, can someone explain how advertisers would use a Tool such as the Digital Point Adsense Sandbox Tool - i.e. how is that data useful? This is a genuine question - I'm not criticizing the Tool, but I want to understand how it works.

    Thanks in advance.

pay for keywords is mostly used in google search network. Search network means when you search for something on google.com and see the ads above the organic results or on google partner search sites.

In display network (The ads you see in adsense enabled blog) advertisers prefer to choose a theme (Theme can be defined as topics) or in blogging language tags... as per their best records google identifies sites releted to that theme or topic and show the ads.. this process is based on the URL level not on site level for example if you have a blog covering health and MMO both, health releted ads will appear on the health posts and blogging/affiliate relted ads will appear on your MMO blog posts.

again there is a catch, the ads are not always related to the theme, it will appear depending on your recent search as well. if you search for dating releted topics you might see ads releted to that on next pages you access.. the tools are just there to give you a fare idea not exact or accurate..

PS: Ads releted to MMO in my post was just an example to say releted ads, Adwords does not allow most of the make money online products or ads due to their false misleading claims

What a great answer! Thanks. What I hadn't understood was that Adwords uses individual URL's to assess posts individually. Also, I had not factored in my own recent searches as an influence as well.

About MMO - is having MMO-type meta tags for my Set up a Blog site likely to be penalizing me in Google's eyes? I can easily take out direct reference to MMO in my main tags. I haven't got into the MMO part of blogging yet, so I don't need to have them.

I have another site which is health based where I post content but hardly do any promotion. That site has been given a Site Rank of 2 from Google, almost without me trying. But the 'setting up a blog' site still gets only a Site PR of 1 - even tho that is where I'm putting in all my effort.

My 'setting up a blog' site gets more visitors than the Health based site and my Blogging articles show up well in SERPS. So does Google play favorites with Topic areas high up in their Algorithms? I know MMO is more competitive, but I'm getting decent numbers of visitors i.e. people, even though Google is less impressed with the MMO one in terms of ranking.

No its not about Adsense publlishers or Organic searches (As far as i know). Its about adword advertisers of make money onlline products.
Writing on how to make money online has nothing to do with being penalized however having just a affilite site might get you in troouble.
